The Business Coaching industry has it’s origins in sports coaching, where athletes and sports men and women automatically accept that working with a skilled coach can improve their performance and provide the motivation, to allow them to perform at their best.

We are working with a well known sports mind coach, to develop a training course which builds on the lessons learned in the sporting arena, and applies those lessons to the board room, the office and the shop floor. Many of the principles are the same, but by looking at work related issues, through a sporting lens surprising and valuable learnings can be made. Call us if you would like to learn a little more about our unique sports/business coaching methodology.

Team building activity with a difference!  -the Scenario

It is the near future.  Commercial Space Travel is a reality.  Safety is the number one priority.  Highly trained ground teams stand ready to assist any spacecraft that gets into trouble.  They hone their skills with the help of a computer controlled emergency simulator.  Your team now has access to that simulator.

Here’s the situation.  A brand new spacecraft on its maiden test flight has a problem. A massive systems failure has occurred and a small explosion has damaged other parts of the ship.  The spacecraft’s oxygen supply has been compromised and the crew has only 2 hours of air left before they must attempt a re-entry.  Its structural integrity is sufficient for re-entry but there is much work to do to get it ready to be able to attempt one and land safely.

The crew can do some things on-board, but they face many challenges that they need external assistance with  – yours!  You need to communicate effectively with the crew and tackle the challenges that you are presented with to the best of your team’s ability.

Think Apollo 13 and you are halfway there.  On the ground, your team has two hours to help the crew get their spacecraft into shape and position for re-entry.

Up for a Challenge?

To tackle this successfully, you’ll need to be up for a challenge and show effective team working processes.  You’ll experience an activity that is truly different, is thoroughly involving and one that will test your team to the limit.

The parallels back to the workplace are important as they help the team focus on making improvements in real life.  Processes under the microscope include:

  • Leadership skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Team communication
  • Consensus building
  • Priority setting
  • Decision making
  • Problem solving.

If you would like to run this exciting and challenging simulation in your own workplace and to use this opportunity to improve team performance, email info@dennissandford.com and we will be in touch to tell you more.
